REVIEW

I am going to give two different reviews here. My first review is for the movie goer… The guy that just wants to go catch a movie and have a good time. The second will be for the ultrafan…

Movie Goer Review

This movie is straight up robocop with tits and brainwashing but robocop. Its dark like robocop. It moves like robocop. Heck it has giant robot battles like robocop. It even has its version of OCP. I give you even one better. It flipped the sexes from female to male. It therefore flipped the partner from male to female. The family dynamic from wife to mother. Lets face it, in the age of male disposability mommy is all… Its Japan even feels like detroit… So if you loved robocop you are in for a treat… If you like to see strong female leads. You are in for a treat. Its a great B movie… Why B and not A… I felt no deep connection with the main character. The villains felt completely disposable. I just did not feel vested in this movie. I’ll tell you why? It felt like a cookie cutter movie. It did not feel like it added anything to the genre or told a new tale. Sure, the near-naked skin suit of Scarlett Johansson was great eye candy but it just didn’t quite work… It would have done well to embrace the feel of the old tom cruise film minority report… This film was just too dark for me. It was fun but it left me yearning to go back and see John Wick 2…

Ultrafan review
If you are an ultrafan of ghost in the shell…
Yes you felt strange with stand alone complex and second gig
Sure arise felt like a step down…
The live action movie is well downright insulting…

Look, we all know that movies are being made for the chinese audience. Cool… This is the first movie that truly had a chance to embrace that and yet come across as totally western in its feel. Look at the material they had to work with… Cyber Espionage… Counter Espionage… Corruption of Government and Industry… Political Intrigue… Deeply Moving Personal Stories dealing with the struggle between man and machine…

What the fuck did we get… Scarlett Johansson in the porn suite…

This movie easily could have been a great movie if it did 3 things…

1… Respect its source material and not try to use iconic scenes to compensate for whats missing below the belt…

2… Be what ghost in the shell has come to be… and that is extremely socially relevant… insightful and entertaining

3… Not do another fucking origin story… Do what ghost in the shell is known for iconic teamwork stories…

4… Yes I know we said three… I know this was based on the ghost in the shell movie but lets be real… its complete garbage… the tv series defines ghost in the shell for just about everybody and is much better source material.

For the fan in me… this movie was a real let down… Honestly, I am losing faith in scarlett being able to carry a movie… Her last superhero helming the ship role was just crap… It had such potential but it just well fizzled… and this… don’t get me wrong… she has a great body but it takes a little more than that to carry something like ghost in the shell…

Look… this ghost in the shell franchise has the ability to be something on the level of mission impossible… its got all the key elements… It just needs someone like Joss whedon… who can write and has a damned vision… They also should have contracted with Peter Jackson on the effects… At some points, it looks like the ran out of money…

The music… for such an iconic sounding media franchise… and for this movie not to even have any of the iconic sound in it… what a waste… It looks like they were looking for boobs and ass to save this movie…

If this was the 80s and late night cable then this would be a bomb movie but we are so past that… people want an epic story… and an epic feel… this just had none of that…

I am waiting for the reimagining… this felt like the sad captain america movies that came out in the 60s and 70s… hopefully the next leap into the unknown will be like ironman… confident and bold…
